
Kori Newkirk is an American multidisciplinary artist whose work spans sculpture, installation, photography and painting, often addressing themes of the body, landscape and the complexities of social structures. Born in 1970 in the Bronx, Newkirk’s art incorporates a wide range of materials and approaches, often using everyday materials, found objects and unconventional methods to challenge perceptions of both art and culture.
His work engages deeply with the materiality of objects, while also evoking broader questions about value, location and identity. Newkirk's works have been exhibited in prominent institutions and galleries across the United States and internationally, including the Museum of Contemporary Art Los Angeles (MOCA), Locust Projects, Miami, the Whitney Museum of American Art, Serpentine, London, MCA Sydney and the Studio Museum in Harlem.
Newkirk has taught and mentored for close to 30 years. He has taught and lectured across the United States. He has held positions with Los Angeles Unified School District, SAIC (Chicago), USC (Los Angeles) and currently is a senior lecturer at Otis College of Art and Design in Los Angeles. Most recently served in a mentoring position with OOlite in Miami and lectured at Newfeilds/Indianapolis Museum of Art. He has received numerous grants and awards, including Joan Mitchel Foundation, Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation and Art Matters among others.
Newkirk Received his BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1993 and his MFA from the University of California, Irvine in 1997. He lives and works in Los Angeles
