John Corbett is a writer, curator, and producer based in Chicago.  He is co-owner of the art gallery and record label Corbett vs. Dempsey and his recent books include A Listener's Guide to Free Improvisation (University of Chicago Press, 2016), Vinyl Freak:  Love Letters to a Dying Medium (Duke University Press, 2017), and Pick Up the Pieces: Excursions in Seventies Music (University of Chicago Press, 2019).  Corbett has written extensively about the musicians Sun Ra and Peter Brötzmann.  In addition to those at his gallery, he has curated numerous exhibitions, most recently Private Eye: The Imagist Impulse in Chicago Art (Indianapolis Museum of Art, 2021) and 3-D Doings: The Imagist Object in Chicago Art, 1964-1980 (Tang Teaching Museum, Saratoga Springs, NY, 2019).
